Self-retaining retractors hold a surgical wound open on their own. This ring-handled V. Mueller Shadow-Line frame, T-0100, is used in spine and neurosurgery. Its two ring handles lock on a curved toothed ratchet, and each double-hinged arm ends in a side-loading blade jaw.
