Then compare the jaw pattern, such as fenestrated or serrated, and whether the jaw is single or double action. What is the difference between laparoscopy and endoscopy equipment?

Laparoscopy equipment is one part of the wider group called endoscopy equipment. An endoscope is a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and a lens for viewing inside the body. A laparoscope is the type of endoscope used to look inside the abdomen. So every laparoscope is an endoscope, but many endoscopes are not laparoscopes. Endoscopy equipment can also mean scopes for other areas of the body and the light cables that connect to them. Laparoscopic instruments are the long, narrow graspers, scissors and needle holders used alongside the laparoscope. A listing title usually names the item type, such as laparoscope, grasper or light cable.

What should I compare on laparoscopic needle holders?

Compare the jaw curvature, the jaw inserts and the handle before you look at size. Karl Storz lists its KOH needle holders with jaws curved to the left or to the right. Those models have tungsten carbide inserts and single action jaws. Laparoscopic handles can be axial, in line with the shaft, or pistol grip. Some handles have a ratchet that can be disengaged. Storz also states which side the ratchet release sits on. One KOH model is 3.5 mm in size with a working length of 36 cm. It also has a Luer lock connector for cleaning. Match these details to the model number in the listing title.

What do jaw shape and jaw length mean on laparoscopic scissors?

Jaw shape describes the profile of the scissor blades, and jaw length is how long those blades are. Karl Storz lists CLICKLINE scissors inserts with straight jaws, conical jaws or jaws that do not cross. Jaw lengths in that line include 6 mm, 10 mm and 15 mm. Some inserts also list serrated toothing on the blade. These figures are separate from the 5 mm size and the working length, such as 30 cm or 36 cm.
