The gynecological instruments in this category include Heaney hysterectomy clamps, Tischler and Kevorkian biopsy punches, and Hegar and Pratt dilators. Wittner uterine biopsy forceps are listed too. The vaginal speculum listings include Graves and Pederson patterns, next to O'Sullivan-O'Connor retractors and uterine curettes. Laparoscopic items include Kleppinger bipolar forceps and morcellator parts. Hysteroscopy instruments include sheaths and related parts from Olympus, Karl Storz and Hologic. These makers have no affiliation with Clear Choice Medical.

Compare jaw pattern, tooth style and overall length when you match a hysterectomy clamp to your set. Biopsy punch titles often state the bite width in millimeters along with the overall length. Dilators are sized by diameter, in millimeters or in French. For hysteroscope sheaths, check the outer diameter and the system family. What you see here reflects current availability, which changes whenever an item sells. Browse the OB/GYN listings, or contact Clear Choice Medical if one leaves a question about size or pattern.

Common questions about OB/GYN

What is the difference between Hegar and Pratt dilators?

Hegar and Pratt dilators are sized on different scales, with Hegar dilators listed in millimeters and Pratt dilators listed in French. Hegar dilators come single-ended or double-ended. A double-ended Hegar carries two consecutive sizes, such as 13 mm and 14 mm. Pratt dilators are double-ended in pairs such as 13 Fr and 15 Fr. The Miltex catalog converts each French size to millimeters and lists 41 Fr as 13.5 mm. Overall length also differs in that catalog, at 198 mm for a double-ended Hegar and 290 mm for a Pratt. Sets are described by their size range, so check the first and last sizes and count the pieces shown.

What is the difference between a diagnostic and an operative hysteroscope?

The difference is the working channel, since an operative hysteroscope has a channel for instruments and a diagnostic hysteroscope usually does not. Karl Storz lists a 3.7 mm examination sheath and a 4.4 mm operating sheath with a 5 Fr channel for one telescope. A larger channel adds width, as the Olympus OES 4000 sheaths for a 3 mm telescope show. Those continuous flow sheaths run from 4.5 mm with a 3 Fr channel to 6.5 mm with a 7 Fr channel. Hologic states the MyoSure XL hysteroscope working channel as 4 mm, so the channel is not always given in Fr. In a listing title, note the part number and the outer diameter in mm. Then check whether it is single flow or continuous flow and which telescope the maker pairs with it.

What is the difference between Heaney and Heaney-Ballentine hysterectomy forceps?

The difference is in the jaws, since Heaney forceps are described by their teeth and Heaney-Ballentine forceps by longitudinal grooves. In the Jarit catalog from Integra, Heaney forceps come with a single or double tooth. They also come in light or heavy patterns. Heaney-Ballentine forceps come straight or curved, from 8-1/4 in to 13-3/4 in long. A related Heaney-Rezek pattern is listed as cross serrated with a single tooth. Listings use both words, clamp and forceps, for Heaney patterns. Read the full pattern name in the title, since Heaney, Heaney-Ballentine and Heaney-Rezek are separate catalog items.
