This page carries Frazier, Baron, Rosen and Poole suction tubes. It also holds Pynchon tubes and Eicken antrum cannulas. Suction and irrigation tubes are here too, including House suction-irrigators. Makers named in the titles include Karl Storz, V. Mueller, Jarit and Bausch & Lomb. Clear Choice Medical is an independent dealer and is not affiliated with any of these makers. Titles give sizes in French (Fr), in gauge or in millimeters. Several listings are sets or pairs.

To match a tube you already use, start with the pattern name and the maker's catalog number. Then compare sizes on the same scale, since French and gauge numbers run in opposite directions. Check whether a stated length is the working length or the overall length. Titles also describe the tube as angled, curved or straight. Look for the suction control on the handle, such as a thumb hole, a finger hole or a thumb plate with a cutoff. A 30-day warranty against functional defects covers each item. All sales are final and returns are not accepted, so confirm these details before you order.

Common questions about Surgical Suction Tubes

How are suction tubes sized in French and gauge?

French sizes give the outside diameter in thirds of a millimeter, while gauge sizes follow a separate scale that runs the other way. Divide a French size by 3 to get the outside diameter in millimeters. A 9 Fr tube, for example, measures about 3 mm across. A larger French number means a wider tube. With gauge, a smaller number means a larger outside diameter. The steps between gauge sizes are not even, so no simple formula turns gauge into French. On this page, gauge sizes appear on Rosen titles, and most Frazier titles use French sizes. Compare two tubes on the same scale, or use the millimeter figure when the maker gives one.

Is a suction cannula different from a suction tube?

Usually not, because makers use both names for the same kind of hand-operated suction instrument. V. Mueller lists its Frazier pattern as a suction tube. Aesculap lists its Frazier pattern as a suction cannula. In the AccessGUDID database, both carry the same GMDN device term, surgical/emergency suction cannula. That term's definition notes the device is sometimes called a suction tube or tip. The term also excludes devices designed for irrigation, and House suction-irrigator records in AccessGUDID use a different term. When you compare listings, go by the pattern name, size and length rather than the word tube or cannula.

Does a suction tube title give the working length or the overall length?

It can give either, so check which one a title states before you compare two tubes. Overall length measures the whole instrument. Working length measures a shorter section that ends at the tip. On angled Frazier tubes, one maker measures working length from the bend. Aesculap lists one Frazier suction cannula at 180 mm overall with a 100 mm working length. Titles on this page mark working length as WL or spell it out. If a title gives one length with no label, look up the maker's catalog entry for that number. The listing photos also show the actual tube, so you can compare its shape with the one you have.
