Bone holding forceps grip bone and lock in place. Reduction forceps draw bone fragments together and hold them in position. Holding patterns here include Lowman and Verbrugge designs, self-centering bone forceps and general orthopedic holding forceps. On the reduction side, you can compare pointed and ratcheting forceps. Some forceps here use a speed lock design. Bone hooks are listed in this category as well. Brands include Zimmer, Stryker and Sklar, along with Synthes. None of these makers is affiliated with Clear Choice Medical.

When you match holding forceps, start with the jaw pattern, such as the number of prongs or pointed tips. Lowman clamps are often described by prong layout, such as a 1 x 2 prong jaw. Then compare the overall length, the lock type and whether the jaw is straight or curved. Ratchet and speed lock designs close differently, so match the style your team already uses. Confirm the part number and length in each listing, because stock on this page changes as items sell.

Browse the current bone clamps and forceps above, or contact Clear Choice Medical to ask about a jaw pattern or lock style.

Common questions about Bone Holding & Reduction

What is a Lane bone holding forceps?

A Lane bone holding forceps is a bone holding pattern that B. Braun lists as straight, with serrated jaws and a ratchet. B. Braun gives its Lane version a length of 320 mm, or 12 1/2 inches. It has a 13 mm jaw width and a branched handle. B. Braun lists the Kern-Lane as a separate pattern, at 240 mm with a 9 mm jaw width. The two names are sometimes joined, as in Lane Kern. So two Lane listings can differ in length and jaw width. Compare those two figures first. Then check the handle and the ratchet in the photos.

What is a Verbrugge forceps?

A Verbrugge forceps is a bone holding forceps pattern, and it is made in several versions under the same name. B. Braun lists a Verbrugge curved to the side with serrated jaws, a ratchet and a ring handle. Its 175 mm version has a 5 mm jaw width. Its 255 mm version lists two jaw widths of 10 mm and 4 mm. Teleflex lists a self-centering Verbrugge with a speed lock and an angled jaw. Its lengths run from 5 7/8 inches to 11 3/8 inches. So the name alone does not tell you the lock, jaw or length. Read each of those in the title and photos.

What do Fig and Size numbers mean on bone holding forceps?

Fig and Size numbers mark sizes within one maker's line of a forceps pattern. B. Braun uses Fig numbers on its bone holding forceps with thread fixation. Its Fig 0 is 190 mm long with jaw widths of 7 mm and 2.5 mm. Its Fig 1 is 240 mm long with jaw widths of 10.5 mm and 3.5 mm. Listing titles for Stryker self-centering bone forceps use Size numbers instead. A number from one maker cannot be assumed to match another maker's number. Compare the overall length and jaw width, and the part number where the title gives one.
