Otolaryngology instruments here span nasal, laryngeal and ear patterns. Nasal forceps include Blakesley, Weil-Blakesley and Takahashi styles, with Freer and Cottle septum elevators close by. The laryngeal group includes Jako laryngoscopes and laryngeal cup forceps. Ear instruments include House pattern pieces, Buck ear curettes and ear speculums. Frazier suction tubes and rasps are listed as well. Tonsil and adenoid instruments appear too, and the page also lists rigid sinuscopes. Karl Storz and Bausch & Lomb Storz listings both appear, so read the full maker name in each title. You will also see Pilling, V. Mueller and Integra pieces.

For ENT instruments with jaws, compare the cup or jaw size in millimeters and the jaw angle. A forceps listing may read straight or 45 degrees up, and some patterns come in left and right versions. Septum elevators are often double-ended, so look at both tips in the photos. Many suction tubes are sized in French, such as 7 Fr or 9 Fr, along with a working length. On a rigid sinuscope, the diameter, working length and direction of view identify the model.

Availability shifts as pieces sell, so check the current listing for exact model details. Browse the current ENT instruments for sale, or contact Clear Choice Medical about a pattern you need.

Common questions about ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat)

What is the difference between an otoscope and an ear speculum?

An otoscope is a complete viewing instrument, while an ear speculum is the funnel-shaped tip that sits in the ear canal. A common otoscope has a handle and a head. The head holds a light source and a magnifying lens. Its front end takes an ear speculum, often a disposable plastic one. Metal ear specula are also sold on their own in a range of sizes. Pilling lists Hartmann ear specula as round and chrome plated in a set of four. Oval patterns such as the Farrior are sized in millimeters, for example 4 x 5 mm. Check the title for the pattern name, the shape and the size.

What do Killian and Vienna mean on a nasal speculum?

Killian and Vienna are pattern names for nasal specula, and each pattern comes in more than one size. A nasal speculum has two flat blades on a hinged handle. Squeezing the handles spreads the blades apart. Pilling numbers its Killian nasal specula from size 1 to size 4. Their blade lengths run from 45 mm to 80 mm. Pilling sells the Vienna pattern in small, medium and large. Some listing titles also give blade length or spread in millimeters. When you match a speculum, compare the pattern name, the size and the blade length.

What is the difference between an intubation laryngoscope and an ENT operating laryngoscope?

An intubation laryngoscope is a handle with interchangeable blades, while an ENT operating laryngoscope is a rigid tubular scope with its own light carrier. The conventional handle holds batteries and a light source. Macintosh is a common curved blade and Miller is a common straight blade. Both blade styles come in sizes 0 through 4. Operating laryngoscopes carry names such as Jackson, Holinger and Tucker. Pilling lists them by overall length and minimum inside diameter. Those entries also name the replacement light carrier by part number. Pilling sells holders and suspension systems as separate items, and its Boston University system needs a scope adapted for it.
