This page lists graspers from Karl Storz, Richard Wolf and Snowden-Pencer. Jarit, Aesculap, Stryker and V. Mueller listings appear too. Jaw styles include fenestrated, atraumatic and claw jaws, along with Babcock and Allis patterns. Some titles state single or double action. Monopolar, ratcheting and rotating versions are listed as well. Long versions, including bariatric graspers, can reach 45 cm or more. Some listings are inserts, the jaw and inner shaft of a modular system such as Karl Storz Clickline or V. Mueller EndoLap. Others come complete with a handle. Brand names describe the maker only. Clear Choice Medical is an independent dealer and has no affiliation with any manufacturer.

To match a grasper, compare the shaft diameter, working length and jaw pattern with the one you use now. Diameter decides which trocars the grasper passes through. For an insert, check that it belongs to the same system as your handle and outer sheath. Makers give each jaw and length its own catalog number, so confirm that number before you buy. The Clear Choice Medical guide to surgical forceps types covers grasper jaws and handles. Clear Choice Medical offers free domestic shipping and a 30-day warranty against functional defects. All sales are final. We do not accept returns.

Common questions about Laparoscopic Graspers

How do atraumatic, fenestrated and claw jaws differ on a laparoscopic grasper?

On a laparoscopic grasper, atraumatic jaws usually have fine serrations or dull ends, fenestrated jaws have an open window and claw jaws have teeth. A Karl Storz catalog lists atraumatic grasping options apart from toothed grasping options. The graspers it labels atraumatic include jaws with fine serrations and hollow jaws. Some are also fenestrated, so a single title can read atraumatic fenestrated grasper. In the toothed group, the claw option is listed with 2 x 3 teeth. That group also lists a jaw with multiple teeth for atraumatic grasping. The catalog also gives operating room nicknames, such as Tiger jaws for its 2 x 4 toothed insert. A listing may use the nickname or the maker's wording for the same jaw. Compare the jaw terms and the maker's reference number with the grasper you use now. Listing photos show the actual item, so you can also compare the jaw itself.

What is the difference between a 5 mm and a 10 mm laparoscopic grasper?

The figure is the shaft diameter, which sets the smallest trocar the grasper can pass through. Some jaw patterns are listed in one diameter only. Karl Storz lists its CLICKLINE 33510GF bowel grasper only at 10 mm, with a 36 cm working length and a jaw of about 58 mm. Its 5 mm inserts in the 33310 range list the same 36 cm working length. So the diameter does not tell you the length, and each figure needs its own check. On this page, 5 mm is the most common size, and a few listings are 3 mm or 3.5 mm. Many 10 mm listings here are claw or Babcock graspers. Match the diameter to your trocars first, then compare the working length and jaw pattern.

What is the difference between a grasper insert and a complete laparoscopic grasper?

An insert is the jaw and inner shaft of a modular grasper, while a complete grasper also has a handle and an outer sheath. Karl Storz builds its CLICKLINE graspers this way and lists each insert as its own catalog item. One Karl Storz listing here names three parts: 30419VD grasping forceps, a 30525 rotating handle and a 30512 sheath. Titles on this page also name modular systems such as EndoLap and AdTec. An insert sold alone is used with a handle and outer sheath from its own system. Some listings pair an insert with its sheath or handle, and those titles often list a catalog number for each part. Before you order, match the system name, diameter and working length to the parts you already have. Then confirm the catalog numbers against the maker's records.
