What do bone curette size numbers like 000 and 4 mean?

A curette size number ranks cup size within one pattern, with higher numbers larger and extra zeros smaller. STERIS lists Lempert oval cup curettes from size 0000 at 2.1 x 3.2 mm up to size 2 at 4 x 6 mm. Some catalogs write zero sizes as fractions, such as #1/0 or #2/0. The number is not a fixed measurement across patterns. A size 1 Lempert cup is 3.6 x 5.1 mm, while a gSource #1 oval bone curette is 6.9 mm. Where a listing gives millimeters, compare those figures along with the number and the pattern name.

What is the difference between a Cobb curette and a Cobb elevator?

A Cobb curette and a Cobb elevator are different instruments that share the Cobb name. Catalogs size them in different ways. The gSource catalog lists its 11 inch Cobb curettes by size number, from #3/0 up to #6, in straight and angled forms. It lists its 11 inch Cobb elevators by width instead, from 1/4 inch to 1 1/4 inches. A set title may not say which pieces are curettes and which are elevators. So check each piece in the photos rather than relying on the name. In that catalog a size number marks a curette and a width marks an elevator.

What is the difference between a cup curette and a ring curette?
