Some parts belong to named systems such as Stryker AxSOS, VariAx, Asnis and Hoffmann external fixation. Other orthopedic instruments here include Hohmann and Volkman retractors, wire and pin cutters, and cannulated drivers. Large and small fragment instruments from Zimmer and Smith & Nephew are listed as well. None of these makers is affiliated with Clear Choice Medical, which is an independent dealer.
Match trauma parts by system name and catalog number before you compare anything else. Drill guides and sleeves are sized by drill diameter, such as 3.5 mm or 5.0 mm. Check the hex size on a driver tip and whether the driver is cannulated. Handles may use quick connect or other couplings, so compare the fitting with your existing set. Some depth gauge titles state a measuring range that you can compare with the screw lengths you use. Stock in this subcategory changes as parts sell. Browse the trauma listings for exact sizes, or contact Clear Choice Medical about a specific system part.
Common questions about Trauma & Fracture
What is the difference between a small fragment set and a large fragment set?
The difference is screw size, since small fragment sets hold smaller screws than large fragment sets. Standard small fragment sets typically include 3.5 mm and 4.0 mm screws. Large fragment sets typically include 4.5 mm and 6.5 mm screws. Both usually carry partially threaded and fully threaded screws. Instrument listings may name the set a part came from, such as a large fragment plate set. Compare the screw diameters named in the title with the set you are completing. The size label alone does not name the maker's system, so check the system name as well.
What parts make up an external fixation set?
A modular external fixation set combines pins, couplings or pin clamps, connecting rods and assembly tools. The Stryker tray layout card for Hoffmann 3 is one example. It lists pin-to-rod and rod-to-rod couplings, 5-hole and 10-hole pin clamps, and 11 mm carbon fiber rods from 100 mm to 650 mm. Posts come straight or angled at 30 degrees or 90 degrees. The tray also holds a spanner wrench and a universal pin chuck for 4 mm, 5 mm and 6 mm pins. Stryker color codes its Delta couplings by the diameters they take. Compare each part's diameter with the rods and pins in the frame you already have.
How can I check whether a used trauma instrument set is complete?
Compare the listing with the manufacturer's tray layout or inventory sheet for that set. Stryker, for example, publishes a tray layout card for Hoffmann 3 and an inventory control sheet for Asnis III. The Hoffmann 3 card lists each item by reference number and gives a quantity. Some positions on that card are marked optional. The Asnis III sheet lists cannulated drills from 4.9 mm to 8.0 mm and 3.2 mm guide wires by reference number. Listing photos show the actual item, so count the pieces in the photos against the sheet. If a reference number is unclear, contact Clear Choice Medical before you order.
